Margaret & Fortune Cookie
Margaret Williams-McGowan was born and raised in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh suburb. She studied both commercial and fine art. Margaret has over thirty years experience as a retail advertising artist / art director working in such diversified fields as advertising agencies, newspapers, direct mail publications and large department store chains - including nine years at Gimbels Pittsburgh. Areas of expertise include fashion illustration, layout, and graphic design. She now works in her own out-of-home studio.

Margaret began entering juried shows. Encouraged when her very first entry was accepted into a national exhibition and museum tour, then placing 2nd out of 808 entrants in the North Light Book Club Magazine’s Second Annual Cover Contest, she’s now devoting all of her time to pastel painting.

She’s been featured in the Sunday North Edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She has been a Finalist in the Animal Category of The Artist’s Magazine's Annual Art Competition four times and is the recipient of numerous awards at national and international exhibitions including Best of Show. She was awarded Third Place in the Animal Category of the Pastels Journal's 6th Annual Pastel 100 Competition. She is one of five artists featured in the "Animal Attraction" article in the June 2008 issue of The Pastel Journal. She is included in Best of America Pastel Artists Volume II and Best of Worldwide Artists working in Charcoal, Pastel & Pencil (Kennedy Publishing). Also included in the 2014 book Strokes of Genius 6 by NorthLight Publishing.
